After Easter Brunch at Six Burner my family and I walked the Easter Parade on Monument Avenue. For those of you that haven’t been it’s not really a parade. There’s a set loop from the Lee statue to Robinson and back. Richmonders bring their families, dogs, dress up in Easter costumes or their Sunday best, and walk the loop while popping into the vendor’s stands that line the median. While at the end of the walk I noticed a mid-fifties gentleman wearing an exquisite tie dye button down. A basic white OCBD with minimal green tie dye - perfect for the day. I loved it and it’s been in my head ever since.
To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, reference this shirt at Ann Mashburn’s webstore. Not this. Obviously the key here is very minimal tie dye. I’ll probably go even less than Ann’s. Since this is a project best suited for spring/summer, this is going to have to wait until March or April. I figure I’ll do some test shirts with beat up undershirts and thrift an appropriate OCBD in the meantime.
If done well I think it will look great paired with a repp tie, navy blazer, and slacks. Dressed up without being stuffy and severe. I expect to get some guff from my friends, but opinions coming from flip-flop wearing, cargo shortsed slobs mean nothing to me.
